Established in Haymarket, Virginia, on 17 September 2005, American Legion Post 1799 is located in the 16th District of the American Legion, Department of Virginia. America's military veterans in the greater Haymarket area have joined together to support our community and demonstrate veterans still serve the Nation. We invite American men and women military veterans to contact us regarding membership.
The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest veterans service organization, committed to mentoring and sponsorship of youth programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting a strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.
Normally, our Post holds monthly general membership meetings at the Marsh Mansion at Heritage Hunt and monthly Post Executive Committee meetings at the same venue. All meetings are open to the membership. The Post's operations are guided by the annual Post Calendar. Our Post Commander leads the Post through staff planning and membership input, combined with American Legion national, department, and district guidance. While we are a local Post, we contribute to the American Legion national effort. We provide a wide selection of community support activities and we remain open to expanding our activities to meet membership expectations.
We hold annual elections to ensure our membership retain control of their Post. All members determine their level of participation - however - all members have unique talents and experiences to contribute to make their Post and community better. Our Haymarket Post was numbered "1799" to commemorate the year the town of Haymarket was charted.
